Aaron
“You need to leave,” I repeat for maybe the tenth time since I arrived back home.
Damien shakes his head, his mouth turned downward as his eyes narrow. His breathing is fast and laboured, and I can tell he’s trying to stop himself from attacking me. Even though I’m sure he wants to.
“That little girl is my daughter. I have every right to see her,” he growls.
“Mate, that little girl is mine. She calls me daddy. Not you. I’ve been her father since the day she was born and I’ve been more to Etta in the five years I’ve known her than you ever were. All you did was fuck her up, and I am not going to let you do that to her again. Now, fuck off. And get away from my family.”
His fists tighten by his sides and his jaw ticks as he clenches it hard and leans toward me. “Make me,” he says in a whisper.
I lean just that bit closer too and match his tone. “Gladly.” That’s when I explode at him. I’m ready. I’ve been training for three years knowing this moment would come.
Rapidly, I shoot my arm out and aim a palm to his shoulder as if I’m going to push him, and Damien reacts, exactly how I expect him to so he’s not expecting me to follow through immediately with a knee to his stomach. When he hunches over, I land a kick to his thigh then drive my elbow into his back, tipping him further forward. But he doesn’t fall. He just stumbles slightly then turns around to face me.
A bitter laugh escapes his lips. “Krav Maga?” he asks, his voice a bit strained from the blows he’s just taken.
“Three years worth.”
“You’re doing well.”
“Well enough to fuck you off.”
Damien smiles, then tilts his neck to the left and I hear the air pop from between his joints.
“Is that so?”
The man moves like a fucking ghost, and before I know it, I have my arm twisted behind my back and he’s pushed me forward so I’m leaning over and his hand is holding a fist full of my hair.
“I don’t want to fight you Aaron. I just want to see my daughter and speak to Henrietta.”
Fisting my other hand, I thump it into his thigh repeatedly, causing him to groan as he pushes me away from him reflexively. I stumble a few steps before regaining my footing. “Just leave, Damien,” I growl out, fuming after his words.
“No,” he says, folding his arms across his chest defiantly.
Gritting my teeth, a growl escapes me and I charge him, expecting to embark on a bit of a head to head battle with him. But instead, I’m blindsided by Etta as she grabs my shoulders and twists my body enough to change my direction. It’s been a long time since she’s practiced Aikido, but it looks like she still remembers what to do.
“Enough!” she yells, standing between us with her hands held out to signal for us to stop.
